Character Name: ░░░░ ░░░░░░░
Fandom: Overwatch Nickname(s)/ Alias: Sombra
Birthday: ░░░░░░░
Age: 30
Gender: Female Species: Human
Canonical Job: Hacker Personality: Without anyone to bring her up but the street gangs of Mexico, Sombra grew into quite the sassy teenager and.. never really moved on from it. Still exactly the same as she was a decade back, Sombra is equal parts the cool, fun adult and the agonisingly immature child. Whilst she's great fun to be around most of the time, her lack of ability to take any situation seriously can be quite grating to more serious folk. Her time on the streets has made her hardy and resilient (perhaps borderlining a little cold), and she has a knack for talking her way out of sticky situations and thinking fast when disaster is imminent. She is cool and collected, rarely showing any sign of fear or distress even in the most dire of situations. The odd times she does start to panic, it manifests itself in more of a bitter irritation than anything intense. The street-hardiness has its downsides, however, in the fact that she has barely any functional social skills. She's cheery and a good listener, but getting any form of trusting and intimate friendship going with her is next to impossible. She's the kind of girl who will gladly endure your entire life story, then offer you absolutely none of her own story in return. Trust is a dangerous commodity in her career, and she thrives off abusing other people's trust for information and power. It's best to keep her at an arm's length and maintain a pleasant acquaintanceship than ending up with a creepy 'friend' who knows too much.
Powers:
- Hack The Planet: Sombra's main 'power' is her godlike hacking abilities. She can get into a variety of devices with ease, and is primarily skilled in disabling electronics and breaking through security defences. Her on-the-field skills are more focused on short-term inconveniences such as shutting down equipment or sending it into overdrive, but with a bit more time she can pull off a huge array of hackerman stunts.
- Translocation (teeny tiny teleportation): Sombra can backtrack to a location she's already been to within the last few seconds, or she can jump small distance of up to 20 metres. It's occasionally unreliable and the sensation of teleporting makes her feel atrocious, however, so it's only really a skill she uses as a last resort to escape danger.
Weaknesses:
- "Girl's gotta have the latest tech": Sombra is built for a world of space-age technology and global interconnectivity. The 1980's might as well be the stone age. Her amazing hacking skills are going to be heavily hindered by the fact she has no idea how to use all this stuff.
- "Quit screwing around": Sombra's got a bad habit of dicking about. Fidgeting, teasing, gloating, getting distracted by something shiny; she's utterly insufferable to work with.
- Built for sprints, not for marathons: All of Sombra's kit is built around getting in and out fast. Her endurance leaves much to be desired. Expect to see her lagging behind in long physically demanding tasks.
- Bad friend: In her occupation, friendship and trust are dangerous. Sombra keeps everyone at arm's length and expects the same in return. She doesn't look for connection, she looks for information. Trying to maintain a friendship with her is not worth the effort.
- Questionable drinking habits: Sombra runs off no sleep and energy drinks. She's also known to be a rather heavy drinker on bad days (side note: almost every single day is a bad day). Sugar and depressants aren't a good combo.
Strengths:
- Hardcore Parkour: Sombra's packing quite a bit of gymnastic power. She can't do anything fancy, but she's great at parkour and scaling walls/buildings/trees in the blink of an eye. Expect to find her spiderman-perched in ridiculous places.
- Fighting for the little people: Whilst technically working for the dark side, Sombra's roots came from fighting the corrupted government to expose the injustices towards the common folk. She remembers where she came from, and she will bluntly speak out for people who are being unjustly treated. She is not easy to take advantage of.
- Cool-headed: Sombra rarely panics. She keeps her suave attitude and upbeat humour even in tense situations, and she's always optimistic even at the worst of times.
- Codebreaker: It comes with the job. Sombra's mastered a lot of different ways to communicate, and she's a gifted codebreaker. She'll figure out a way to talk with almost anybody.
- Eye for detail: Another perk of the job, Sombra's eagle eyes rarely miss even the tiniest details. Not much gets past her radar.
History: No-one remembers the girl. There were a thousand children like her after the war. Sombra lost everything in the Omnic Crisis. The bitter war ravaged her home country of Mexico, and like many children she was left orphaned in a society too decimated to care. Sombra turned her attention to hacking, utilising her talents with computers to survive in the wild.
She was taken in at a young age by Mexico's Los Muertos gang, a (probably criminal) organisation claiming to represent the common folk who'd been all but ignored by the Mexican government since the Crisis destroyed their communities. Her small-scale security breaches turned into cyber-attack revolution against the higher powers. She started to get power hungry. She started to get addicted. She went after politicians, celebrities, governments outside Mexico, and she started to unravel a global conspiracy far larger and more corrupted than she could ever imagine.
And then someone caught her.
The girl vanished. All traces of her birth were stripped from the system. Her name, her birthday, her family records... softly erased without a sound. She hadn't died, she'd simply never existed in the first place.
After a small period of silence, a 'new' hacker emerged. "Sombra" has stumbled into a web of lies, and she refused to let it go unseen. Her cyber attacks went global, to the point where she started to gain the attention of numerous organisations like Talon. She took on the whole world, unravelling its twisted secrets and using them as blackmail to extend her web of exploitable 'friends'. Now one of the most notorious hackers in the world, Sombra is on a personal mission to find out who really runs the world.
Sombra currently works for Talon, a questionably evil organisation with questionably evil morals. Her desire to expose the world's conspiracies has turned into a serious addiction, and her ways of getting information are getting ever more questionable as time goes by.
It's likely the last thing Sombra remembers before turning up in the mall is simply falling asleep at her Talon hackstation like normal. She probably just thinks her drink has been spiked.
Items in Pocket: Just a few loose business cards and a well-worn swiss army knife.
Item Taken From Home: Pretty much the only thing she owns is her own little computer rig at home. She's in for a shock when she sees what the 1980's has done to it.
